7 Steps to block paving perfection
There is a simple seven stage process we follow which keeps things nice and simple and ensures the customer will be getting what they expect.
Free Site Survey – At the planning stage we will do all measurements and risk assessments. At this stage we mark out the area and evaluate drainage options block sizes and colours and the final look you’re after.
Excavation – Before any excavation starts we scan the area for gas , water , electric and utilities wires once that is complete we would dig out to the correct depths here at Driveline surfacing Ltd all excavation is carried out by ourselves ensuring all the correct preparation is carried out. At this stage we would lay a porous membrane this would stop our Type 1 subbase mixing with the underlying ground.
Subbase – Our subbases our usually a Mot type 1 hard core or a recycled 20mm – 0mm recycled crush concrete this totally depends on the finished surface and drainage requirements. We lay our subbase at a minimum 100mm / 4inches depth to apply with laying guidelines. This always compacted thoroughly to remove the risk of sinkage.
Kerbs & Edging – Edging is not always essential but sometimes required to act as retainer or decorate edging. All edging is laid on a solid concrete base to ensure there’s no movement, we have a wide range of kerbs and block edging to give your driveway a desirable finish.
Drainage & Manholes – Drainage is quiet an essential when installing block paving. We always take this into consideration and we only use stainless steel metal linear drains which are anti rust and hard wearing and crack resistant. If you have any current manholes on your drive, we would replace these with recess man holes which are designed to not ruin the look of your driveway but also give you access to your drains if needed.
Block Laying – Once we have screened your final base, we will lay the blocks in your chosen pattern.
After all blocks have been laid we can then carry out all the cuts.
Final Finishing – All blocks are fully compacted down, and jointing is carried out with a kiln dried red sand which will prevent any further block movement.
Sealing of block pave will reduce the risk of discolouration and weed growth but is not 100% guaranteed to stop weeds. We use a highly quality sealer which as a long-life span. We do not quote for this when pricing our driveways this is an additional extra if you require it. Please contact us if you would like more information.
